RAYMOND PATRICK SCHMIDT, age 74 of Cleveland, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 24th, 2025.
He was born in Cleveland in 1951 on St. Patrick’s day, to the delight of his mother Violet (née Kilbane) Schmidt and father Raymond Schmidt. He was the only boy among his four sisters, the late Kathleen Nevel (Bill), Janet Patton (Patrick), Marlene Franklin (Barry), and Coletta Braun (the late Jack). He embraced his role as their only brother with a mischievous playfulness and affection that continued throughout his life. He attended St. Vincent De Paul Elementary School and always warmly remembered the adventures with his neighborhood school friends.
Raymond loved learning. He attended St. Edward High School before pursuing his degree in Business Administration at Cleveland State University. He was determined and persistent. He was always reading, usually history books over 300 pages long. In his retirement, he continued his learning with courses at Baldwin Wallace University and the public library.
Raymond is remembered for his sharp wit, great sense of humor, and for being a contrarian who would playfully argue any point as long as it opposed yours. He was a music lover, with a famously insatiable sweet tooth. He loved sports, especially his Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Raymond had a zest for life. He loved dancing, running, traveling, skiing, playing games, and the general frivolity of time well spent with his family and friends, all of whom he treasured. He always kept a positive outlook no matter the challenges life threw at him, and encouraged others to do the same.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Eileen (née Conrad) Schmidt. Words are not adequate to describe how much he adored her. She was his partner, caretaker, and best friend. They were attached at the hip. Whether they were on the dance floor or simply holding hands together on the couch, the love they shared was palpable and precious to all. Raymond made it clear to everyone how much he loved her.
He is also survived by his children and their partners, Annie (Rick) Jennings, Raymond (Sarah Schuerger) Schmidt, and Katie (Joey Mallernee) Schmidt, and his five beloved grandchildren: Aiden, Winnie, and Rory Schmidt-Mallernee, Collin Snider, and Simon Jennings, who were his pride and joy. Raymond cherished being a Dad and a Bumpa. He is remembered as incredibly loving and involved. He would sacrifice anything for the benefit of his children or grandchildren.
Raymond is preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen (née Schmidt) Nevel, and his parents.
