Rev. McKinney was my first boss at Kellwood. He was a good man and always has been such a nice person. His love of Jesus showed through his life. He will truly be missed.

He was a Wonderful and Caring Person through all the years that I have known him!!! I'm so sad to learn of our loss and will reflect back at the many memories of growing up around him, his siblings and Wonderful Mother! I won't make it to the services as I have not been well, but my thoughts, love and prayers are with each of you whom I love very much! ~"Little Eloise" Albritton & Family

I feel privileged to have had the honor of getting to know Pastor McKinney. One special memory, other than hear one of amazing sermons, was attending with Pastor McKinney to a high school's tail gate gathering in 2004 in Hawkinsville with other football enthusiasts. He loved sports. A precious soul like his will truly be missed.

Rev. Gene Alton McKinney, Sr., 80 of Haynesville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Graveside services will be held at Perry Memorial Gardens on Friday, January 11, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Assembly of God Church, 806 Grovania Road, Hawkinsville, Georgia 31036.
Gene was born in Roberta on August 16, 1938. His whole life was devoted to his ministry and serving his family. Gene was affectionately known as “Papa Gene” to his family and around town he was called “Brother Gene”. He began working for the Kellwood Company until he heard the call to be in the ministry. Brother Gene began his service at the Assembly of God in Perry where he served for five years, then started a small church in Clinchfield, where he served for three years, and spent thirty-five years at the Assembly of God in Haynesville. His family has fond memories of him praying for every family whenever he would hear a siren. Gene has been married to the love of his life, Francis Lavern McKinney, for nearly fifty-eight years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gene Alton McKinney, Jr., and two sisters.
Left to cherish the memories they shared with Papa Gene are his wife, Francis Lavern McKinney; his grand-children, Amanda McKinney of Haynesville, Melissa McKinney of Warner Robins, Michael McKinney (Kristina Stinson) of Haynesville, and Matthew McKinney (Ryan) of Atlanta; nine great grand-children; siblings, Bob (Mary) McKinney of Social Circle, Eloise (Cuin) Elliott of Macon, and Korona McKinney of Macon; and many other family members.
Condolences for the family may be left in our online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
