SHORTSVILLE - Wayne L Porter, 85, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025.Calling hours will be on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Refuge Ministries, 182 Lincoln Road, Newark, N.Y. 14513, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wayne's funeral service will follow calling at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Andover, OH on a later date.In memory of Wayne, in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Refuge Ministries, 182 Lincoln Road, Newark, N.Y.Wayne was born on Thursday, July 11, 1940, in Lubec, Maine, the son of the late David and Rev. Laura (Card) Porter. He grew up in Maine and graduated high school in 1958. After beginning college, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving four years as a Second Class Petty Officer. Following his military service, he completed a master's degree at International Seminary in Florida and received a honorary doctorate in 2011. Wayne was a beloved Pastor at Refuge Ministries in Newark, N.Y., a church he helped plant and build alongside his son. He also helped found the Oasis Bible Training Center. A devoted man of faith, Wayne embarked on several mission trips throughout his life. He also enjoyed fishing, taking drives, preaching, teaching, and spending time outdoors. Some of his greatest joys were walking hand in hand with his wife and sharing his love for God with others. In later years, he became affectionately known as "Dad" Porter. He was also the author of one book, Entering God's Rest. His ministry has touched countless lives around the world.Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his son, Rev. Stephen (Dianna) Porter, and his daughter, Stacey (James) Kowalka; grandchildren, Alyssa (Ethan) Hudson, Britney Porter, Jonathan Kowalka, and Joelle Kowalka; great-grandchildren, Rosie, Malachi, and Moses Hudson; sister, Carol Ann Kinney; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Ward; as well as several nieces and nephews.Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth in 2022; his siblings Austin (Helen) Porter and Harlow (Sue) Porter.Please write a memory or condolence to the family by visitingwww.watermanfuneralhome.com
