So sad to hear of Dick's passing. He was one of a kind friend and will always be remembered and missed. Our thoughts and prayers for comfort and peace to his family. We will remember him with a smile because that is what he would have wanted. R.I.P. Dick and burn rubber on those streets of Gold! (still hard to believe he is gone!)

Richard Eugene Reed Jr., 74, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away suddenly on November 15, 2025.
Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to Richard E. Reed Sr. and Betty Freeman Reed, Richard moved to Spencer at the age of 12, where he built his life, raised his family, and formed lifelong friendships.
Richard had a lifelong love for cars and motorcycles. From the time he was 15, he owned and restored beautiful vehicles, always with an eye for detail and craftsmanship. He had a rare gift for taking anything old and making it look brand new again, a talent he took great pride in.
His resilience was one of his most defining qualities. After a car accident left his right arm paralyzed, Richard refused to let it limit him. With extraordinary determination, he learned how to work, fix, build, and live fully using only his left hand. He often amazed others with his abilities—and with a grin would remind them, “Never underestimate a one-armed man!”
Anyone who knew Richard knew he lived life boldly and unapologetically. He didn’t have a filter and was always making people laugh. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. His humor, orneriness, and down-to-earth personality made him instantly unforgettable.
Richard is survived by his children, Corey Reed (Kristin) and Erin Casto (Colby); his beloved grandchildren, Zane Reed, Nathan Kendall (Alyssa), Ryan Kendall (Jenny), Allie Kendall (Jonah), Emily Casto, and Carson Casto; and his best friend, Roxy. Richard was preceded in death by his sweet dog “Abby,” and his cats “Gracie” and “Steve” whom he cherished dearly.
He was currently separated from his wife, Joyce Walbrown Reed, yet still cared for her deeply. In recent months, he had been living with his lifelong friend, Joetta Real, whose companionship and friendship were a meaningful part of his life.
Richard will be remembered for his strength, independence, humor, and fierce love for his family. Those who knew him will forever cherish his stories, his laughter, and the many lessons he taught simply through the way he lived.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family with arrangements.
