Richard Lloyd Downs Jr., 59, of Kansas City, MO passed away, Saturday January 2, 2021, at his home after losing his battle with Lung Cancer.
Richard was born May 7, 1961, in Wuerzburg, Germany at the US Army Hospital, to Richard and Hildegard Butz-Downs. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Gregory Downs.
Richard was a well known mechanic, owning his own radiator shop, Budget Radiator, and prided himself on working on vehicles. He would help anyone with car problems. He enjoyed riding Harleys and was a big Ford Truck fan. He always referred to FORD’S as FIRST ON RACE DAY. He enjoyed spending hours talking on the phone with his daughter, no matter where he was at the time. Richard enjoyed watching the Chiefs games and drinking his cold beer while talking smack to his sister, Jenny, who is a Green Bay packers fan…. while placing bets on who would win. He enjoyed going to casinos and playing the penny slots, which he won big a couple of times. Richard loved eating Prime rib, crab legs, German dumplings, and drinking chocolate milk. He loved the holidays especially the 4th of July but, Christmas was his favorite. He also enjoyed going to flea markets, garage sales, and going to the City market in downtown Kansas City. He enjoyed going to museums and collecting antiques, he loved fishing, camping, and being on the lake, even though he didn’t know how to swim. He was always good about finding deals on things that he wanted. Richard also prided himself on growing his garden in the summer time, especially his hot peppers. He had a great sense of humor and was so full of life. He will truly be missed by those that loved him and his legacy will live on through his family.
He is survived by: his sister, Jenny Downs; daughter, Amanda Ward (Andrew Ward); grandchildren, Andrew Ward Jr., and Avery Ward; his son, Steven Williams.
