Richard's Obituaries

RICHARD M. FRENCHRichard M. French of Manchester, Vermont died peacefully on December 14, 2014. Dick was born in New York City on September 12, 1926, the son of Richard and Ethel (Mulet) French. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Allyn, and leaves no issue.Richard served with the 172nd Infantry of the United States Army from 1944 to 1949. He served for nineteen months in the Philippines and Japan and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in the liberation of the Philippines and a Purple Heart. He was Honorably Discharged in 1949.He attended Bucknell University and graduated in 1953. Dick spent his entire career in the entertainment industry, beginning as a writer for the Steve Allen Show in 1953 and concluding with leading tours at Hildene, one of his favorite pastimes. Richard and Allyn were married on July 25, 1964 in New York City where they resided until they retired to Vermont. Contributions in memory of Richard may be made to Friends of Hildene, Inc., Manchester, Vermont.
