Richard Dale Gorringe passed away peacefully on Sunday November 24, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born May 11, 1930 to Osborne William (Toby) Gorringe and Lila May Reynolds Gorringe in Murray, Utah. Dale remembers as a young boy riding with his dad in the tanker truck to deliver gas to distant gas stations. That’s probably where he got his love of long car rides. He liked getting together with the Reynolds cousins whom he loved like brothers. After graduating from Murray High School, Dale enlisted in the Air National Guard where he worked in the Motor Pool until he retired as a Master Sargent. While training in Clovis, NM Dale made preparations to marry his sweetheart, Shirley Wilkins. They married August 28, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dale and Shirley lost a son in infancy but raised four of their five boys. Their Murray home was always busy with the boys and their friends doing activities, art projects and playing in the backyard ditch. They loved their family! They supported their four sons in Scouting and serving LDS missions. Dale was a great example to his sons for his dedicated work ethic. Dale and Shirley welcomed daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren making great memories camping, exploring, ATV riding, but mostly boating at Lake Powell.
His four sons have fond memories of boating. He’d call home before leaving work to tell the boys if they got the boat hitched they’d get a bucket of chicken and spend the evening on a local lake. He liked to explore all the canyons of Lake Powell. It became his favorite place. He loved taking people on their first experience of Lake Powell.
Dale made lifelong friends at the Guard. Those friends and their families spent many fun days together camping, hunting, and boating. Dale became skilled at all aspects of auto repair. When he was not at work he was usually fixing someone else’s car. Many people gave him a heartfelt thank you when Dale did not charge them for his work. Dale was active in The Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scout Master many years of his adult life. He helped his four sons, many grandsons and countless other young men earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved all scouting activities and was a noble example of the scouting values in his own life. His exceptional character and service was recognized when he received the Silver Beaver Award. His family will forever love, and respect, and until we meet again, miss him. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and beloved wife. He is survived by two sisters, four sons and daughters-in-law, 17 grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the loving care from the workers at Symbii Hospice and Cottage Glen.
