Richard's Obituary

Richard “Dick” Elvin Hoffman, 81, of Sanger, Texas, passed away on September 28, 2025. He was born on April 27, 1944, in Long Beach, California.

The son of a preacher and the middle boy among four sisters, Dick grew up with a deep appreciation for family and hard work. At church camp in Augusta, Kansas, he met the love of his life, Melva, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, raising 3 children while living throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

Dick enjoyed a long career in construction and sales before retiring. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, baking bread, going on cruises, and flipping golf carts. Most of all, he cherished gathering with family and friends around the dinner table, sharing good food, telling stories, and creating lasting memories. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was simply “Happy”—a name that perfectly captured his spirit.

He will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and devotion to the people he loved.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Melva Hoffman of Sanger; his daughter, Lisa Martin and husband Rodney of Sanger; his grandchildren, Samuel Martin and wife Kendall of Sanger, Nicole Caouette and husband Cameron of Valley View, and Ava Hoffman of McKinney; and his great-grandchildren, Brookelynn, Benjamin, Hannah, and Ellie. He is also survived by his sisters, Karen Khourie of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Linda Wince and husband Rick of Bloomington, Illinois, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rich Hoffman, and his daughter, Amy Hoffman; his parents, Reverend E.E. and Verna Hoffman; his sisters, Joyce Anderson and Janice Friley; and his brother-in-law, Bill Khourie.

A family gathering will be held in November.
