Richard “Dick” Kinsley, 93, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the VA Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, surrounded by the love of his family and under the attentive and compassionate care of the hospice team.
Dick was born on December 21, 1932, in Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington High School and continued his education at The Nettleton Business College. In his younger years, he honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
On April 8, 1955, Dick was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sherill Harvey, in Sioux Falls. Their marriage of 71 years was a beautiful testament to devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
In 1956, Dick and Sherill moved to California, where he began a successful career with Allstate Insurance, serving as a Senior Underwriter. In 1974, the couple returned to Sioux Falls, where Dick later became partners with his father-in-law, Vern Harvey, at Yellow Cab. Dick proudly served as President of Yellow Cab for more than 30 years, earning respect for his integrity, leadership, and steady presence.
Dick found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures—playing golf, enjoying card games with friends, and traveling the world alongside his family. He was an active and faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, where his quiet faith and gentle spirit were evident to all who knew him.
Above all, Dick will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and patient husband, father, and grandfather whose calm strength and loving heart left a lasting imprint on his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Sherill Kinsley of Sioux Falls; his son, Brent (Denise) Kinsley; his grandchildren, Matt (Shayanne) Kinsley and their newborn son, Kameron, all of Sioux Falls, and Alexis Kinsley of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Scott Kinsley.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the VA Hospital and the VA Hospice Cottage for the exceptional compassion, dignity, and care shown to Dick and his family throughout his journey.
