Richard's Obituary

Richard A. KulasSeptember 19, 1940 – June 3, 2025

Richard A. Kulas, beloved husband, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 84.

Richard, son of Nell and Frank Kulas, spent his childhood living in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Richard grew up surrounded by family, faith, and a love of baseball—a passion that began in his youth and endured throughout his life as a devoted Red Sox fan. Raised in a close-knit Polish-American community, Richard served as an altar boy at his local Catholic parish, instilling in him a lifelong respect for tradition and service.

Richard proudly served in the Army Reserve for six years, during which he earned recognition for his sharpshooting skills. After his service, Richard worked as a manager at Capital Supermarkets, where fate introduced him to the love of his life, Leah. The two married shortly after meeting and shared 57 years of deep and abiding love. Their bond was built not only on affection but on a profound friendship that carried them through life’s many adventures.

Though he had a tough exterior, Richard possessed a playful spirit. He was especially fond of amusement parks and roller coasters, a passion that led him and Leah to move to Florida to be near Walt Disney World. There, he spent 17 years working at the park, most notably on the Space Mountain ride. He took great joy in the magic of Disney, often playfully convincing Leah to join him on roller coasters, despite her immediate regrets. Richard also adored his extended family, especially his nieces, great-nieces, and nephews. One of the highlights of his later years was a cross-country road trip with Leah, during which they visited landmarks and created lasting memories. A lifelong Boston sports fan, Richard was overjoyed to witness the Red Sox win the World Series twice in his lifetime.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Leah Kulas, of 57 years. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Elaine Markos of Beverly, MA; Maria and George Ketrelakes of Beverly, MA; and Zoe Markos of Ocala, FL; as well as his nieces Desi Souhleris and Elaina Berry, both of Boxford, MA, and great-nieces and nephews: Alex, Christiana, Athan and Gabriella.

Richard will be remembered for his wit, warmth, loyalty, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
