I loved Dickie especially when we spoke about skiing and who we knew and his brother Jim. He was so personable and friendly. We will see him again someday, I am sure.

What a wonderful person he was. I always remember as a child him eating peanut butter on his plain donuts. He always made me feel welcome when mom and I came for coffee with your mom. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Richard Abbott Lawrence, 93, of Farmington, NH, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Born on November 27, 1931, in Farmington, NH, Richard was the son of Abbott and Arlene Lawrence. He was a proud member of the Farmington High School Class of 1950 but was drafted into the U.S. Army before completing his senior year to serve in the Korean War. He was married to the late Beatrice (Wilkinson) Lawrence of Milton Mills, NH.
Richard, lovingly known as “Dickie” to all who knew him, served as an APO Clerk during his military service in Korea. Upon returning home, he bought a house on Central Street in Farmington where he raised his family and later retired from Lydall, Inc. in Rochester, NH.
In his younger years, Dickie was an avid skier and baseball player, known for his athleticism both on the diamond and the slopes. He worked at Cannon Mountain in its early days as part of the Ski Patrol, often sharing stories of climbing lift poles to grease them, checking on the Old Man of the Mountain, and racing down the trails with unmatched enthusiasm.
Dickie was predeceased by his beloved wife Beatrice, son Ronald Lawrence, sister Elaine Chagnon, and brothers Roger and James Lawrence. He is survived by his son Melbourne Lawrence, daughters Sandra Passler and Wanda Barnes, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Later in life, Dickie became affectionately known as “Bumpa,” a nickname lovingly given by his grandchildren who delighted in bouncing on his knee to the chant of “Bump, Bump, Bump!” Bumpa adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who saw him as a someone who could fix anything. He shared his love for the garden, spending sunny days picking vegetables and rhubarb with the little ones, and his passion for skiing, often taking to the slopes with both grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His radiant smile, hearty laugh, and warm heart will be deeply missed. As he always said, “He lived a good life.” We take comfort in knowing we’ve gained a guardian angel.
Godspeed, Dickie—one last run down the mountain, and please give Gram a hug for us.
