Richard's Obituary

Richard (Dick) Calvin Michael, Sr., age 84, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.Born May 6, 1932 in Morgan County, WV, he was the son of the late Harley Calvin and Tracy Gates Michael. Richard graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #778 in Martinsburg, WV and a lifetime member of the NRA. He served on the Morgan County Fair Board and was a 50 year member of the Morgan County Farm Bureau. Richard was a member of the Sleepy Creek Watershed and longtime supporter of Camp Frame 4-H Camp. He retired from E.I. Dupont in Martinsburg. He farmed in Sleepy Creek for many years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years at home, Ruth White Michael; one daughter Cindy Smalley and husband Jim of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Richard (Rick) Michael, Jr. and wife Tammy of Martinsburg, Kenny Michael, Sr. and wife Monica of Berkeley Springs, WV; one sister, Leila Stuckey of Berkeley Springs; seven grandchildren, Tesha Saville and husband Virgil of Martinsburg, Kenny Michael Jr., and partner Mindy Long of Berkeley Springs, Ryan Michael and wife JoAnne of Martinsburg, Joshua Smalley and wife Jesseca of Hedgesville, Caleb Smalley and wife Felicia of Duncannon, PA, Tyler Michael of Martinsburg, Drew Michael of Ann Arbor, MI; eight great grandchildren, one neice Jeanne Laidlow of Berkeley Springs and one nephew Ed Kaylor of Alabaster AL. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister Helen Kaylor and infant brother, Harley Lee. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 5594 Martinsburg Road, Berkeley Springs, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Dennis Rhoe and Pastor Ed Kaylor. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Morgan County Fair Board or Camp Frame Board at 129 Fairfax Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.Arrangements by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 36 S.
