Such a great man...enjoyed working with him in law enforcement in Appomattox County...RIP old friend...

We have such fond memories of Richard at Buggs Island Lake! Such a kind and generous person!!! We have been looking for him and just heard and are devastated!! Will eat some Crappie in his memory!!!

Richard Leonard Phelps, Sr., 80, of Oakville Road, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at his residence. He and his loving wife Dorothy Totty Phelps shared their life together for over 59 years.Born in Appomattox, July 16, 1936 he was a son of the late Della Lee Robertson and Carlyle Thomas Phelps. Richard was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman, loved going to their Buggs Island lake house and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Teresa Mayberry and husband Curtis of Appomattox, Richard L. Phelps, Jr and wife, Vicky of Gladstone and Pamela Moore and husband, Timothy of Courtland; four sisters, Marion Horsley of Appomattox, Joyce Taylor of Concord, Cora Mae Page and husband, Clyde of Gladstone and Clara (Dot) Ferguson of Gladstone; five grandchildren, Sasha Garrett and husband, Michael, Shana Harvey and husband, Justin, Krystan Harris and husband, Raymond, Michelle Oler and husband, Andrew and Kevin Moore and wife, Jessica; nine great-grandchildren, Hunter and Peyton Garrett, Pierson and Laikan Harvey, Dallas, Lauryn and Hallie Harris and Jackson Moore, Aubrey Oler; and a sister-in-law, Patricia L. Phelps of Gladstone.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle and Randall "Randy" Phelps, and three nephews.A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Robinson Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Kvasnicka officiating. Burial will follow in the Phelps family cemetery.The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
