Richard G. Toth, 84 years old, of Bad Axe (previously of Port Austin and Rochester Hills) passed away in hospice care on January 3, 2026 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Richard was born on October 1, 1941 at Hubbard Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe to the late George and Vera (Etzler) Toth.
Throughout his entire lifetime, Richard continued to be very much a self-taught lifelong learner after graduating from Rochester Senior High School in Rochester MI. Even at a very young age he was already immersed in reading and recounting Winston Churchhill’s historical memoirs of World War II. World history and geopolitics continued to be a lifelong passion. He had worked for 27 years until the Covid pandemic at Thumb Industries where he especially enjoyed the task of acclimating and training new retail staff members with his gift of patience.
Richard is survived by his brother, Dr. Kenneth Toth and his wife Dr. Carolyn Toth of Murrieta CA, as well as his first cousins Dr. Charlene Depner of Oakland CA and Cheryl Depner of Ann Arbor MI.
Per Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City and his cremains scattered in the natural beauty of his beloved Port Austin area where his Etzler family ancestors pioneered a land grant on Etzler Road in 1860.
