Townville, SCRichard "Rick" Venn Benson II, 66, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at his home in Townville, SC. Born in Queens, NY, on September 26, 1948, he was the son of Richard V. Benson and Evelyn Schnurr Benson. He is survived by his sister, Helen Mullen, and her husband Tom Mullen, of Florida, as well as by his son, Richard Benson III, daughter-in-law, Whitney Hibbitts, and granddaughter, Corinna Benson, all of North Carolina.Rick was a great father and an extremely loyal friend. He will be missed for his easy wit and sense of humor; his love of the outdoors, manifested most recently in a love of motorcycles; his warm heart and generosity toward both longtime friends and perfect strangers; and, above all, his sincere interest inthe people around him, regardless of status or creed-from the children he helped during his 13 years as a social worker in Knox County, KY, to the people he met during his subsequent life as entrepreneur, tavern owner, and maverick.Rick's friends and family gathered to celebrate his life at a tavern in Pendleton, SC, on January 19.Rick was allergic to flowers. Memorials may be made in the form of an extravagant tip to your favorite server or bartender.Sullivan-King Mortuary
