Richard Jackman Woodward, Jr. – 82, a longtime resident of Milford NH, passed away at the Colonial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Abington MA on Sunday morning, September 30, 2018. Born in St. Albans, VT, on April 2, 1936, Richard was the son of the late Richard J. Woodward, Sr. and Katherine (Bedard) Woodward. On October 29, 1960, he married the former Ethel M. Pierce in Warren, VT.
Richard grew up in Waterbury, VT and was a 1955 graduate of Waterbury High School. He served his country as a member of the US Army from 1955 – 1957 and remained in the Reserves until 1961. Following his discharge from active duty, Richard worked several years for the Coca Cola Corp. servicing vending machines. In 1962, he moved to Milford NH where he specialized in refrigeration service for vending machines, working for the Servomation Corp. for 20 years and later for the Tobin Corp. from which he retired.
Richard and Ethel loved to travel and enjoyed wintering in Florida. Mechanically gifted, he found great joy in working on automobiles. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, hiking, hunting, fishing and servicing his neighborhood by plowing snow for over 20 years. The family fondly remembers Richard as a loving husband, father and grandfather who was always present and giving.
Richard is loved and mourned by his wife of 58 years, Ethel M. Woodward of Raynham, MA; their children, Cathy A. Sterling and her husband Greg of Raynham, MA, Richard J. Woodward III and his wife Joanne of Moultonborough, NH; 5 grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Pecor and her husband Robert of Melbourne Beach, FL; a step-sister, Nancy Lee Slayton of VT; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held from the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home, 48 South Main Street, Waterbury, VT on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery St. Albans, VT. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. For those who wish, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
