Ricky Lee Oppold, 63, of Canton, SD, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society-Canton.
Ricky was born on October 9th, 1961, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was the son of Raymond and Carol (Olson) Oppold. He attended school in Harrisburg, SD, and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1980.
While in high school, he was active in football, wrestling, laying sod, and anything mechanical he could fix or improve. Wrestling was where he excelled, and his passion lay.
After graduating high school, Ricky pursued a degree in diesel technology at the Vocational Technical College in Springfield, SD.
Once a certified diesel mechanic, he went to Texas for a short while to work in the oil fields. Upon his return to South Dakota, he welcomed his two children into the world.
He kept busy over the years with various occupations and hobbies such as sprint cars, any sort of mechanical endeavor he could find, specialized trailer building, boiler maintenance, laying sod and servicing the equipment, gardening, camping, raising animals, farming, utilizing his CDL driving semi and heavy equipment, and staying close to family and friends.
Ricky is survived by his daughter Amanda (Trent) Brock of Volga, SD, and his son Christopher of Sioux Falls, SD. Grandson Ian Brock. Brothers Rodney of Canton, SD; Ronald (Laurie) of Coon Rapids, MN; Russell of Sioux Falls, SD; Roger (Pam) of Sioux Falls, SD; Randy (Shawn) of Sioux Falls, SD; and sister Kristi (Jay) Bent of Dell Rapid, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation with family present will be 3:00-5:00pm Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday, March 24, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Harrisburg, SD.
