Obituary

Robert "BB"'s Obituary

Robert B. Phillips, Sr., affectionately known as "BB," peacefully completed his life's journey on Monday, January 15, 2024, in Malvern, Arkansas. Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to MC Phillips and Ommie Lee Young, BB's legacy is marked by a life rich in community engagement and hard work.

During his school years at A. A. Wilson, BB showcased his athleticism as an active member of the football team. Even after graduating, he continued his love for sports by participating in a local adult softball team for numerous years.

A dedicated and industrious individual, BB served the city of Malvern as an animal control officer for 24 years, making a significant impact by saving a child's life during his duty. Later, he joined Malvern Public Schools as a custodian, contributing his efforts until his retirement. Remarkably, throughout his career transitions, BB remained committed to his community by maintaining lawns during summers and collecting leaves in the fall. His resilience shone through even after a stroke limited his abilities, as he continued his passion for lawncare until circumstances no longer allowed.

Beyond his work, BB found solace in the tranquility of fishing, a favorite pastime where he demonstrated skill alongside the best. Additionally, he enjoyed cultivating gardens, listening to music, and cherishing moments with family and friends.

Robert B. Phillips, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a love for life that will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents, MC Phillips and Ommie Lee Young Curry; a son, Darrin Bullock; brothers: Ray Curry, Joe Louis Kelley, J. T. Kelley, Freeman Kelley, Charles “Happy Jack” Dobbins and a sister, Janice Russell.

BB will be missed and remembered by his loving wife, Deanna Yorke Phillips of Malvern; six sons: Robert Phillips, Jr. of Hot Springs, Russell Phillips (Tina) of Grand Perry, Texas, Otis Phillips, Sr. (Lori), Curtis Hubbard (Tiffany), Derek Phillips, and Percy Phillips all of Malvern; five daughters: Angela Williams, Deborah Gregory (Henry) both of Malvern, Stephanie Utley of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Roberta Phillips of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Alexa Phillips of Little Rock, Arkansas; a brother, Larry Curry and a sister, Cristalene Smith both of Malvern and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

BB's Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00 A. M., on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at First Baptist Church Vine Street in Malvern. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 4:00 - 6:00 P. M., at Brandon's Mortuary in Malvern. His earthly body will be laid to rest at Perla Cemetery in Malvern.
