I remember Robert, or as I called him at the time, Mr. Blount when I worked with him at Bekins. I worked summers when I was in school. He was the driver and I was his helper. He was big and strong and very quiet. I respected him a lot and I learned a lot from him about moving. He was a class guy and I will never forget him. I’m 69 now and I never forgot him. To Sis Gracie Blount and Family,
I am truly sadden at the passing of Bro. Robert Blount Sr. However, I know Our Lord and Savior met him at the river Jordan saying "Well Done my good and faithful servant". The memories of you and bro Blount along with the Holsey Temple family remain clear and intact. Even though I found out too late to attend his service, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as we continue to march onward and upward. And know this my beloved sister - "God...

My heart was truly broken when I got the news about Mr. Blount. I had the pleasure of being his caregiver and being around his Famliy. I pray that GOD comforts you during this time of a Great Lost. I love you guys and I may not live close by but Im only a phone call away.

Robert's Obituary

Mr. Robert Pierce Blount, Sr. 98 passed peacefully on September 16, 2016 at his residence while under the care of Hospice with his wife and his daughter/caregiver by his side. Funeral service will be held on Saturday September 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Holsey Temple C. M. E. Church, 3729 N. 15th Street, Tampa, Florida with Rev. Anita Williams, officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force. Interment will be held on Monday September 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida. Mr. Blount was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rosa Blount; son, James A. Blount; sisters, Roberta, Burnestine, Lestina, Ruby and Idonia; brothers, Hubert and Foster. Robert is survived by his lovely wife, Gracie; children, Robert P. Blount (Gloria) of Atlanta, Jo Ann Blount, Edward Blount, Sheila Blount and Stevenson Blount (Rhonda) all of Tampa; grandchildren, Robby Johnson, Robert P. Blount, III (Kimberly), Susie L. Blount, Valencia Blount, Artaveus all of Tampa, Syrita Robinson (Christopher) of Baltimore, Tamra Walts (Earl) of Atlanta and Whitney C. Blount of Atlanta; great grandchildren, Niconna, Zuri, Keith Walts all of Atlanta, Robert Pierce Blount, IV of Tampa, Stevenson Blount, Jr. of Tampa, Elana and Christopher Robinson both of Baltimore; step son, Altona Cummings (Linda), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Robert was the son of Robert and Rosa Blount born on May 29, 1918 in Hancock County, Georgia. He was united in holy matrimony to Gracie Bell. Mr. Blount was a World War II Army Air Force Veteran. After returning from the war he worked as a construction technician with the 316th Army Air Force Base Unit, Tampa, Florida. Mr. Blount received an honorable discharge from the Army Air Force. He later worked for Mayflower Bondage Moving and Storage and continued working there after their name changed to Bekins Moving and Storage. Mr. Blount later retired after 38 years of service. After his retirement he worked for Meals on Wheels, Nicks Warehouse and delivered flyers in the community. Robert was a Christian and loved serving and talking about the Lord. He joined Holsey Temple C.M.E. Church in 1949 and served faithfully and dutifully as a member. Mr. Blount was also very active in his church and served as past President of the Steward Board, Trustee Board, Pentecostal Choir, Choir Union and Class Leader. There will be a viewing Friday September 23, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends in the chapel from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home.
