Robert "Bob"'s Obituary

Robert (Bob) H. Ghormley lost his life November 16, 2015 as a result of a tragic accident. He was born in Placerville, CA, April 27, 1935, the second son of the late James P. Ghormley and Harriett Anna (Paulson) Ghormley. He was 80 years of age. Bob attended schools in Amador City and Sutter Creek; he left high school early to work in timber mills for a short time before entering the construction trade. On May 17, 1953 he married Mary Jane Gold of Drytown, and in 1961 they returned to build their home and raise three children. Bob was adventurous, hardworking, and strongly determined in all he attempted. He liked to travel with his wife Mary, and beloved golden retrievers, Kela and Ruby in their R.V. They sat around many a campfire and hiked trails in the mountains and deserts. Gold mining was his next favorite activity he and friend, "Bedrock" formed the "Empty Pockets" Mining Company. It was always a laugh. They worked hard at it and he would say, well "mucker" we'll get some "clunkers" today! He was a 55 year member of Operating Engineers Local 3 and a retired finish blademan. He was exceptional in his work and enjoyed road construction and all his colorful buddies who worked with him. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary of Drytown, CA; daughter, Cynthia Hoffman of Vacaville, CA; son, Randal W. (Tina) Ghormley of Del Norte, CO; son, Wesley D. (Siobhan) Ghormley of Fairbanks, AK; grandchildren, Ryan Ghormley of Lebanon, MO, Logan Ghormley of Antioch, IL, Jessica Hoffman of Modesto, CA, Larisa Curtis of Fiddletown, CA; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Melvin Ghormley of Sutter Creek, CA, Donald L. Ghormley, Sr. of Drytown, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by in death by his older brother Paul James Ghormley.Services were held November, 25, 2015, interment was at the Garden of Trees, Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson, CA.
