Bob was born in McCamey, Texas, to Alvin and Lurlene Bushong. He grew up in Rankin, Texas, where he graduated from Rankin High School. Bob was a proud Rankin Red Devil throughout his life. He was a truck driver and union steward for Merchants Fast Motor Lines from 1964 – 1997. Bob accumulated over 680,000+ hours of safe driving for Merchants. After Merchants closed, he worked for three years for Loomis Fargo & Co. as a security guard on their armored trucks before retiring.
Bob’s favorite thing was fishing. He owned lake property in Colorado City for many years and had a ball down there with his family. More recently, he enjoyed fishing here in Midland at the park. He also loved hunting. For many years Bob was active at the Midland Senior Center and made many friends there. Lately, Bob enjoyed his recliner and watching old westerns.
Bob is survived by his children, Lacey & Scott Camp of Fort Worth, Texas, Angie Cole of Barabou, Wisconsin, Stephen & Amy Bushong of Midland, Texas; stepdaughter, Annie & Kevin Fincher of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Nick Camp, Chris Cole, Zach Cole, Regina Murphy and Becca Sutherland as well as their families and many great-grandchildren including James Sutherland, his constant companion for the last few years. His sister, Barbara Bushong Park, was one of his greatest friends.
Bob’s wife, Betty Lou Holden Bushong; parents, Alvin and Lurlene Bushong; stepdaughter, Reecie Holden Leach; and granddaughter, Tricia Kate preceded him in death.
Services will be held at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home & Chapel, 2508 N Big Spring, Midland, Texas, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14th.
