Robert Cooper, Jr.

Robert Cooper, Jr. “Junior” of Somerset, KY, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  Junior was born on August 24, 1941 at Hickory Nut, KY, the son of Robert Alger Cooper and Gertrude Dye Cooper.  Junior was a self-employed mechanic and operated a wrecker service and also a beekeeper.  He was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church.  Junior was a “Natural” at mechanics… he could fix anything.  He loved his family.

Junior is survived by his children, James (Ethel) Cooper, Robert Cooper, Wanda (Paul) Walters, Delmer (Peggy) Cooper, Wendell (Lisa) Cooper, Lonnie Cooper and Earl Lee Calhoun, Jr.;  grandchildren, Larry Cooper, Laura Stout, Paul Walters, Casey Minton, Lacey Denny, and Jonathan Cooper, Delmer Lee Cooper, Hobie Cooper and Robert Holder, Gracey Hall, Johnathan Calhoun, Timothy Calhoun and Jesse Calhoun; great-grandchildren, Matthew Cooper, Jessica Cooper, Dustin Strunk, Abigail Strunk, Gabriel Strunk, Elizabeth McWhorter, Halee Walters, Julie Walters, Isaiah Cooper, Kinsley Cooper, Ryan Denny and Hayden Hall; great-great-grandchildren, Paisley Lane Strunk,  Brantley Dale Strunk, Amara Hockensmith and Mazikeen “Mazi” McWhorter; a special niece, Connie Duncan; special great-great- nephew, Carter Duncan; extended family members,   neighbors and friends who are saddened by his passing.

In addition to his parents, Robert Alger and Gertrude Cooper, Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Fay Burton Cooper who passed away on August 25, 2023; two grandchildren, Timothy Cooper and Kimberly Cooper; siblings, Carl Cooper, Helen Withers, Sylvia Crisp, Verl Cooper, Ruth Sexton, Julia Cunningham, Lillian Sue Pullins; infant sister, Della Cooper; and great-great granddaughter, Ryley McWhorter.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and continued on Thursday, September 12th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY  42503.  

His Funeral Service will follow on Thursday, September 12th at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland with Bro. Lance Coffey officiating. Burial will be at the Hopeful Cemetery, Nancy, KY.  Pallbearers will be Steven Stout, Brad Hall, Hobie Cooper, Jonathan Cooper, Larry Cooper, David Minton, Robert Holder and Hayden Hall.
