Robert's Obituary

Robert James “Jim” Craig, 88 years old of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026 with his family by his side.  Jim was born to the late John and Isabelle (StGeorge) Craig on December 26, 1937. He and Elsie Shepherd were married for 44 years.

Jim and Elsie loved to travel to their cabin, stop at garage sales, check out the local wind turbines and take crop tours. He totally adored Elsie and the time they spent together, and he never stopped talking about his granddaughters.

He always spoke fondly of starting out his career working for Harry Clancy before moving onto the Huron County Road Commission for 35 years before his retirement.

Jim spent his free time working in his yard, cutting firewood, running his skidsteer, tinkering on small engines in the garage, as long as there wasn’t a NASCAR race on. Racing was in his bones as he raced on the local dirt tracks in the 60’s with a team of his brothers and friends. After suffering a bad racing accident, his future in the sport was ended. Later he was able to help his son with his racing career.

Jim is survived by his wife Elsie, son Robert (Debbie) Craig, granddaughter Ashley (Jonny) Rozanski; grandson Stephen (Bess) Huddleston and their children Olivia and Emily Huddleston. He is also survived by his additional family; Dallas (Peggy) Marks, Jay (Lisa) Marks, Tammy (Mark) Lewis, Kelly Marks and Wendy (Gary) Young; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Loraine Craig, Marge Craig and Alice Craig.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers’ John Craig, Harvey (Jeannie) Craig, Ken (Mary) Craig, Gene Craig, David Craig and Gary (Judy) Craig; sisters Fran (Wilbur) Leneway, Elaine (Harold) Smith and Dorothy (George) Gembarski.

The family extends a thank you to Jim’s two favorite helpers Doug and Ted, for the love and support they offered to him.

Funeral service for Jim will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, with Pastor Tim Callow officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at MacAlpine Funeral home from 4:00-8:00 pm and also on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of service.

Condolences may be shared with the family at www.macalpinefuneralhome.com
