Robert Stevenson Farrar, “Steve ,” was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on June 12, 1947. He passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior on August 3, 2025, in the Woodlands, Texas.
Steve is preceded in death by his son Blake Berkeley Farrar, two brothers Terry, “Buddy,” Farrar and William, “Bill,” Farrar, and parents William Allen and Iris Farrar.
Steve is survived by his wife of 57 years Helen Farrar, daughter Adrienne Werner and husband John, grandson Jeron Tarpley and wife Yuria, great grandchildren Jake and Violet, and sister Karin Cripps and husband Darrell.
Steve graduated from Pineville High School in Pineville, Louisiana and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was a devoted member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry and faithfully ushered for Sunday Morning Services. Steve was employed by TDCJ at the Ellis Unit as the Woodshop Supervisor for many years. When retirement came, it didn’t exactly “take,” and after eight months at home, he returned to work for TDC for several additional years.
His immediate family, extended family and many dear friends have cherished his warmth, humor, and generosity through the years. Throughout his life, Steve was guided by an unwavering commitment to those he loved and was always present and willing to lend a helping hand. He leaves a legacy of kindness, humor, and warmth which will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Steve never met a stranger and could tell the most wonderfully “embellished” stories. He enjoyed wood working and was a wonderful and inventive cook. Steve loved tinkering and could somehow repair(or at least “rig”) all things broken—how our hearts need that particular skill today!
Steve’s passions extended beyond his family to his love for nature, storytelling, and travel. He enjoyed his daily workouts at the gym, which were perhaps as much social as they were physical, and he loved his daily golf cart rides with his little “squirrel” dog down to the community marina. Steve loved a good story, a good meal, and the company of friends and family, and he created a home filled with love and laughter. As we remember Steve, we celebrate a life richly lived—one marked by integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to family and friends. He leaves behind a tapestry of treasured memories, an enduring example of selfless love, and an everlasting impact on those privileged to know him.
