Robert's Obituary

Robert Broughton "Bobby" Leary, Jr. 72, passed away June 24, 2015 in a Norfolk hospital.Bobby was a native of Portsmouth and was proud of his Park View roots. He had a lifelong passion for local waters, was an avid boater and a member of the Portsmouth Boat Club. He was a talented craftsman who enjoyed building and restoring furniture and boats.Bobby retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Physical Science Technician after 23 years of service. Prior to his government employment, he worked at F.W. Woolworth Co. in downtown Portsmouth and for Woolco Department Stores. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sally Scharf Leary; a daughter, Stephanie Beth Leary and fiancé Chuck Matthews, Jr.; a son, Robert B. "Robbie" Leary III and wife Kate; two grandchildren, Levi Owen Matthews and Owen James Leary. Friends may join the family from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
