Robert M.'s Obituary

Robert M. Hammell, age 64 of Delaware, Ohio, a former Salem resident died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Kobacker House in Columbus. He was born February 18, 1954 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Elwood C. Jr. and Susanna (Fronius) Hammell.   Robert worked at American Steel Foundries in Alliance as a furnace worker for 20 years. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem and a 1972 graduate of Salem High School. During the Vietnam War, Robert served in the United States Navy as a Navy Seal.   Survivors include his wife, Pamela K. (Nutter) Hammell, whom he married March 26, 1975; a daughter, Shawna (Ray) Ashead of Delaware, Ohio; a sister, Jeanne Rickman; and three grandchildren, Daniel A. Kaiser, Alexander M. Ashead, and Aaron R. Ashead.   A daughter, Lena Marie Hammell-Kaiser also preceded him in death.   A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Hope Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Alan Smearsoll officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Salem Honor Guard after the memorial service. Burial will be held at Hope Cemetery.   Arrangements were handled by the Stark Memorial Funeral Home.
