Robert A. McGregor, age 64, of Atchison, KS, died on September 22, 2025, at Amberwell Atchison.
Rob was born August 22, 1961, in Atchison, KS, the son of Gary McGregor and Donna (Buffon) and lived most of his life in Atchison. He was a 1979 graduate of Atchison High School, where he ran track and field and played football. He earned a BS in Physics from Kansas State University in 1983, as well as a master’s degree from Emporia State University in 1988. He was accepted into a Physic PhD program at Perdue right before his long, struggle with mental illness began.
He was a talented artist, was very creative and loved to play the piano. He was highly intelligent and spent a summer internship at the Los Alamos Atomic Place while in college.
Rob is survived by both his parents, Gary (Rebecca) McGregor and Donna (Chuck) Swank; siblings, James (Peggy) McGregor, William (Jann) McGregor, who was his guardian and helped as a caretaker for many years, MaryJean (Jerry) Schmalz and Laura Lou (Todd) Harper; and his several nieces and nephews and two step nephews.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Heppler officiating. Friends may visit the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Rob has been cremated and private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials can be left to the Atchison Humane Society or the Atchison Library. Service care entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
Rob was loved dearly by his family and will be very missed.
