Not sure what to say?

Anna, I just learned of your father's passing. He was quite the guy. Such a sense of humor. Most of my dealing with him were by way of doing kitchen inspections. He always made sure to get me something from the bakery. He was a big guy with a big heart. Both your parents were special people and you are very blessed to have been loved and raised by them. Condolences, take care. Marlene

I got to know Bob while working at the state hospital. He was always smiling and outgoing. Nice man.

Our deepest sympathy to Bob's family. May God comfort you and give you peace. Cherish your memories. It is so hard to lose your parents. I (Kathy) worked with Bob at the State Hospital.

ROBERT's Obituary

Robert Wayne Moffett, Sr., 85, longtime resident of Moose Lake, died peacefully in his home surrounded by the loving care of his family on Monday, November 8th, 2021. He was born in Dickinson, ND on July 14th, 1936 to Harold and Viola (Anderst) Moffett.

Bob grew up in Fargo, ND where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country honorably from 1955 until 1959. Bob spent much of his military career on the USS Preserver ARS 8 and was very proud of his dedicated service. Bob married the love of his life, Doris Arlene Arntson, on May 12th, 1962 after meeting her at the North Port Bowling Alley on a blind date. To their marriage, five children were born. The family moved to Moose Lake in 1975. Together, Bob and Doris had enjoyed the sights of Norway, Greece, Austria, Hawaii, even stopping in a place called Moffat, Scotland, along with many, many destinations across the USA, but also enjoyed nothing more than long drives close to home. Bob’s natural inclination to help others led him to teaching early in his career. He found great joy as an instructor of automotive mechanics and culinary arts at the vocational school in Devil’s Lake North Dakota. Bob worked as the Food Service Supervisor at the Moose Lake State Hospital continuing his role at the Corrections Facility in Moose Lake, retiring in 1997.  He drove school bus for over 20 years for Moose Lake School District. He loved this job and especially enjoyed having his grandchildren ride his bus route. Bob was a well-known chef in our small community. Locals looked forward to his prime rib meals at the Red Oak in Sturgeon Lake. He was asked by countless families and churches to cater their events, whether it be roasting pigs and carving fruit bowls for graduation parties or flipping pancakes for fundraisers. Bob instilled his love for cooking in his family, passing recipes and secrets down to his children and grandchildren. For over 45 years, Bob was a cherished member of Hope Lutheran Church of Moose Lake, where he devoted much of his time volunteering in the kitchen. Bob was a multi-talented guy: he was on a bowling league in his younger years, was active in a square-dancing group with Doris, and at age 84 picked up his life-long dream of learning to play the banjo. Whenever the opportunity arose, Bob could be found working in the hayfields with his son – he simply enjoyed offering his help: changing tires, mending a fence, or driving the tractor, he was just happy to be involved. He was quick to lend a hand to whomever needed it. Above all else, Bob loved his family and they truly loved him. He was a blessing to each and every one of his children and grandchildren in their own ways.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Moffett; parents, Harold and Viola; brothers, William, James, and Ray Moffett; and his parents-in-law, Ole and Anna Arntson.

Bob will be deeply missed by his children, Anna (Philip) Lattu, Robert (Dawn) Moffett, Jr., Deanna Moffett, Mardell Moffett, and Tammy (Chad) Burginger; grandchildren, Aaron Lattu, Abigail (Brett) Odegard, Robert “Robby” Moffett III, Mercedes Moffett, Bo Moffett, Evan Carlson, Olivia Moffett, Doris Burginger, Chad Burginger, Jr., and Brette Burginger; sister, Edna Mae (George) Lewis; sisters-in-law, Fran Moffett, Marlys (William) Meagher and June (LeRoy) Hansen; and multiple Godchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Bob’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice and Essentia Home Care Team for their exceptional care.

Private family services will be held in Hope Lutheran Church of Moose Lake on Monday, November 22nd, 2021. Military honors will be held outside the church at approximately 11:50am for anybody who would like attend. Inurnment will be in Grove Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, at a later date.
