Bob was my friend, Scoutmaster, Campstaff Boss, and Mentor. He was a great scout leader and a good guy. He encouraged me to get my first job at Ho-Non-Wah Scout camp and that ended up being a big life influencer for me. I was actually searching for him to say hi and see how he was doing. I guess this post will have to do. I am some photos of Bob from our Scouting days if any family are interested, let me know. Regards, Jon Powell

Robert J. Olix, Ed D, age 71, resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on April 13, 2019 in Albuquerque with family at his side. The relatives and friends of Robert J. Olix are invited to attend his Funeral Service 1:30 PM Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Graveside, Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. The family will receive friends between 3:00 and 5:00 PM Sunday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Online Condolences may be offered at www.CharlestonFunerals.com.
Robert was born in Charleston, SC on June 12, 1947 to Mary Davey Olix and Robert James Olix. He was raised by his loving mother and grew up around his aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. He attended Bishop England High School and later graduated from The Citadel.
He joined the US Army and was deployed to Panama during the Vietnam war. After returning from duty, he settled in Albuquerque, NM in 1975, where he married, raised a family and, while working for the Veterans Administration, continued to pursue his passion for education, receiving his doctorate in 1990.
Bob was active in the Boy Scouts for many years. As a young man in South Carolina he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Later in adulthood in New Mexico, he would pass along passions for hiking and camping to a troop of his own, attending many Jamborees and going to Philmont. He was recognized with the Silver Beaver Award for his lifetime contributions.
“Dr. Bob”, as he was known to many, was an educator who worked in the classroom and, later in life, on education policy both in New Mexico and with the State of New York. He was a lover of history, a reader, and a skilled photographer.
He is survived by his son David (Leila) and daughter Sarah; four grandchildren: Anne-Chloe, Perry, and Linnea Olix, and Robert Castaneda; and his ex-wife Barbara, with whom he remained good friends, all of Woodinville WA; and an extended family in Charleston, SC with whom he was close.
Arrangements by James A. McAlister, (843) 766-1365.
