Robert Powers

Robert L. Powers, 97, of Spring Valley, died at 10:54 PM, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Manor Court of Peru.Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, April 11 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church. Pastor Tom McMurtry will officiate. Burial will be private at Greenfield Cemetery in LaMoille. Visitation for Robert will be held Monday, April 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, as well as a half hour before funeral services, Tuesday, at the church.Robert was born on May 30, 1919 in Lincoln County, West Virginia to Harrison and Luraine (Rakes) Powers. Robert had worked many years in the coal mines of West Virginia before moving to Illinois. He eventually retired from Bassick's in Spring Valley. Robert was also a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.Survivors include his children, Robert (Karen) Powers, Jr. of Detroit, MI, Brenda (Norm) Cogdal of Arlington, Paul (Barbara) Powers of Ohio, IL, Nina (Ed) Shedoski of Dixon, Yvonne (Jim) Koos of Tennessee, and Debby (Joe) Finley of Arlington; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; a daughter, Niwana, in infancy; and a son, Kenneth Ray Powers.Memorials may be directed to the family.
