Robert L. Young

Robert L. Young, 87, of Athens died Sunday, March 22, 2026 at the Darst Private Care Home in Pomeroy.  Born January 14, 1939 in Nelsonville, he was the son of the late Bert Young and Mildred France Young.

A 1957 graduate of Nelsonville High School (where he excelled as an athlete) and a graduate of Ohio University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  He retired from DuPont Chemical Co. in Parkersburg. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in Turkey during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Bob enjoyed sports throughout his life.

Bob is survived by his wife, G. Maxine Cagg Young; two sons, Jeffrey (Jenn Love) Young of Upper Arlington and Marc (Cecilia) Young of Houston, Texas; a grandson, Damien Young; a sister, Dorothy Juniper of Nelsonville; a brother, Charles (Marian) Young of Nelsonville; a sister in law, Bernita (Paul Bean) Crawford of Nelsonville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Eddie Keating and Terry Courtney.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harland & Betty Cagg; and a niece, Laura Sayre.  Bob donated his body to the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The U.S. Air Force will conduct Funeral Honors at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth Home Care and Hospice, 444 W.
