I met Roberta later in life when a bunco group was formed in the Parkview neighborhood. She had such a soft and sweet aura about her that was so nice to be around but it was her sense of humor that surprised me. I loved it. My condolences to her family and close friends who have lost someone very special and dear to them, and I only wish I had known her longer.

Roberta was kind and loving. She did a great deal for others, and loved her family fiercely. Her passing is a loss to all of us who knew and loved her.

Roberta was the calm in the middle of the storm. I knew Roberta first as my colleague, later my friend. We managed Tapestry Arts in San Jose. She tried to retire several times but I always lured her back. I just couldn’t imagine running such a massive event without Roberta’s wisdom, sense of humor and her uncanny ability to remain calm (and keep me calm). Roberta oversaw the artists at Tapestry. She was beloved by all because she did her job with respect and kindness. Over the years we forged...

Our dear Roberta passed away August 12 from complications from several illnesses. Born September 26 1947 in Sioux City Iowa, the only child of William and Roberta Grimm, half-sister to Dolores and Eileen. She traveled extensively across the US with her mother and father as a child, and moved with them to Santa Clara when she was 13.Growing up an only child seemed to form the way she lived the rest of her life, surrounding herself with family and friends that she dearly loved. On day one at Buchser High, she met the first of what would become a group of lifelong friends. She couldn’t stay away from all of her friends from Buchser after graduation, so she became one of the ringleaders of an alumni committee to make sure there was a picnic every year. She briefly attended SJSU until meeting her husband while they were working at Leed’s shoe store at the old Valley Fair mall. She did get her PHT (Putting Hubby Through) degree, working while putting Bob through school. They quickly started a family, and Roberta loved nothing more than staying home to raise the kids and later babysitting the neighbor’s kids after school. The Rinde house seemed to be the center of the world for her kids as well as their friends. She was involved with all things for the kids: PTA, school newspaper editor, recess duty, knowing all the teachers to make sure the kids got and didn’t get, schlepping the kids to and from all the sports and being their #1 cheerleader. When the kids were old enough she went back to work, serving as the artist administrator at Tapestry in Talent, and then after ‘retiring,’ serving as the Parish Administrator for Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran in San Jose. Family was the center of who Roberta was. Many of her friends became like family. She loved family so much that she began researching her genealogy, discovering and meeting new family. Roberta leaves behind a legacy of love, family and friends. She is survived by her husband Bob, daughters Laura and Elisa and son in-law Jim, grandsons Nick, Cole, Logan, Oliver, as well as the furry kid Rosie. Please, the family requests no flowers. Instead, you can donate to your favorite charitable organization, or Camp Okizu.
