Roger's Obituary

Roger Lee Bartlett, age 96, of Albany passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his residence from complications of the flu.

Born June 28, 1929, in Canaanville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Byron Bartlett and Nellie Halbirt Bartlett. A 1947 graduate of Rome-Canaan High School, he was employed by Charlie Moore Ford in Athens, Ohio, as the body shop manager until his retirement. Any problem with a car, he could fix. He loved baseball and coached his son and many other area boys in Little League and Pony League baseball. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and never missed listening to a game on the radio he carried in his shirt pocket. Weekends and evenings he was the designated pitcher for backyard baseball/whiffle ball games for the neighborhood children so that everyone got to bat and run the bases. He enjoyed riding motorcycles in the woods with his son and he and his wife enjoyed a Sunday ride on the back country roads on his Honda. He loved country music and bluegrass music and enjoyed listening to the Grand Ole Opry on his AM radio on Saturday nights. He was a past member of the Alexander Lions Club and attended the Albany Methodist Church.

Roger is survived by his daughter, Teresa Bartlett of Albany; two grandsons, Brian Bartlett of Albany and Bradley Bartlett of Lancaster; two granddaughters, Tiffany Hamill of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Kate Hamill of Albany; a great-grandson, Braden Smith of Albany; and two great-granddaughters, Gabriella Hollman and Isabella Hollman Grehl (Taylor Grehl) both of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Norma Lovsey Bartlett; a son, Gary L. Bartlett; an infant daughter, Lisa L. Bartlett; a son-in-law, Dave Hamill; and two brothers, Joseph Bartlett and Charles Bartlett.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Monte McCune officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, Hebbardsville.  Friends may call Thursday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Bartlett Memorial Scholarship in care of Alexander Future Foundation, PO Box 204, Albany, OH 45710. Please share a memory, a note of condolence, or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
