Roger Carlyle Farrar Jr. journeyed from this earthly abode to his eternal resting place on Thursday, February 22, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 8, 1964 in Rockford, Ill, the son of Roger Sr. and Carol (Banks) Farrar.
Roger was a 1982 Lutheran High School graduate He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Ill, and a Master of Business Administration from Rockford University, Rockford, Ill.
Roger was employed as a police officer by the City of Rockford Police Department for 10 years before retiring. He was later employed as a Manager of the Mobile Unit of the Illinois Secretary of State Offices, G.E.D instructor for Booker Washington Center, and as a trainer and educator for Community Care Alliance.
Roger served with honor and distinction in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was an active member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served in the Men’s Ministry. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., as well as business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi.
A true lover of sports, Roger was a devoted football fan and avid coach. He was the owner of the Rockford Gladiators, and coached the Rock River Raptors, Green Bay Blizzard, Chicago Slaughter, Chicago Bliss, Rockford College Regents and Jefferson J-Hawks.
Roger leaves to cherish many fun and loving memories: his parents, Carol and Victory Bell, Rockford, Ill. ; a son, Christopher Farrar, Roscoe, Ill , grandchildren, Xavier and Noelle Farrar; a brother, Bradley Farrar, Bowie, Maryland; a niece, Regan Farrar, Greenbelt, Maryland; his special friend and companion of many years, Roberta Box-Hanserd, Rockford, Ill.; Uncles, Rev. Kermit(Elaine) Farrar Jr., Omaha, Nebraska and Percy Franklin, Vernon Hills, Ill.; Great Uncle, Roosevelt (Catherine) Banks, Freeport, Ill. and Great Aunt, Lillian Taylor, Freeport, Ill.
Visitation Friday, March 2, 2018 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Service 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 604 Salter Ave., Rockford, Ill. Burial, Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport, Ill.
Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or a contribution in lieu of flowers can be made to the DAV- Disabled American Veterans, , P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301 in Roger C. Farrar’s memory in order to further advocacy for other Camp LeJeune Toxic Water Victims.
