My condolences to the Hughey family and friends. Roger and I met about 35 years ago when he became my barber at Neuton's Barbershop. We continued to stay in contact and before you knew it, we became close friends. He help my wife and I with our daycare business by making signs, banners and he even would take care of our floors from time to time. That's one of the things I will miss about him and that he was a jack of all trades. There wasn't anything that I knew of that Roger couldn't do. He...

Roger's Obituary

Roger Lee Hughey, known affectionately to friends and family as Roger, passed away on May 25, 2025, after a courageous battle withcancer. Born on July 16, 1952, in LaGrange, Texas, he was a beacon of strength and joy throughout his 72 years of life. Roger's finaldays were spent surrounded by love in Dallas, Texas, where he left this world with the same dignity with which he lived his life.Roger is proceeded in death by his mother, Jerlene Hughey; his adoptive father, John Hughey, Jr.; biological father, CharlesWilliams as well as special aunts, Mozelle East, Rena Eans, Ezetta Kirby and Ella May Caldwell; uncle, JB Caldwell Jr.; grandparents,Clara Thompson Caldwell, Sandy Caldwell, Theodore Williams and Minnie Ellis Williams. Roger's legacy is carried on through a lovingfamily, including his daughters, Robin and Rodrette Hughey; his son, Rueben Hughey; stepson, Anthony Norton; siblings, DeborahHughey, Esther Kelly, Lesia Henderson, Kenneth, Chris, Darryl Hughey, Charles, William Jr., Wayne, and Roy Williams;grandchildren, Kennedy Griffin, Willie Wilson II, Parker Wilson, Tianna Norton, Tatiana Hughey, Jayla Hughes, and DaJuan Robinson.Roger was also a proud great-grandfather and held a special place in his heart for his cousins, Charine Sims and Charles Neutton; his nieces,nephews, cousins, and extended family will remember him as a pillar of wisdom and love.Roger was a proud graduate of South Oak CliffHigh School 's Class of 1970. His passion for learning led him to earn an Associates degree in Electronics from ATI and a certification inHeating and Air Conditioning from Houston Community College. His education laid the foundation for a fulfilling career. For over 40 years, Roger was a master barber, a trade he mastered with the same precision and care he applied to all aspects of his life. His involvement as aMason reflected his commitment to community and his firm belief in the principles of brotherhood, truth, and charity. A man of deep faith, Roger knew God and studied His word often, drawing strength and guidance from the scriptures. Roger’s interests were as diverse as his skills. He had a passion for line dancing, a hobby that brought him much joy and camaraderie. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his ventures in trading, making T-shirts, and restoring classic vehicles. Known as a 'hustler' in the most positive sense, Roger was a respected used car dealerin the state of Texas, where his honesty and integrity were as reliable as the cars he sold. One of Roger's favorite quotes was “It is better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it”. This sentiment echoed through Roger’s life, as he faced each challenge with courage and each success with humility. Roger's life was a testament to the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of pursuing one's passions. Hismemory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his influence will continue to guide them. Roger Lee Hughey will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his story is etched in the lives of the many he touched.
