Oh, Susie Q.......Jerry and I are heart broken. I know we had not seen each other for awhile with all of the changes in both our lives. Losing Roger still doesn't seem possible. We have shared the best of times together! All the new restaurants we tried every month. Our road trips, and the real love of our friendship. And the laughter. So much laughter. So sorry for your loss. I shall always remember Roger’s faith in the students at Union Center Elementary when he painted and asked the students not to touch while it was drying. He encouraged them saying, “you can do this”. He really cared about them and the people with whom he worked . I am grateful for his presence in my life.

Roger Dale Shapland, age 74 of Nappanee, IN, passed away at 11:50 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Woodland Manor in Elkhart, IN. He was born on January 11, 1951 in Goshen, IN to James and Edythe (Greenwalt) Shapland. Roger was a Concord High School graduate. On June 18, 1971 Roger married Mary “Sue” Wilson at Mason Baptist Church in Edwardsburg, MI. Together they lived in the Nappanee area for the last 51 years and attended the Living Gospel Church. Roger had worked most of his life in maintenance and was a custodian for Wa-Nee Community Schools for many years. He was a long-time volunteer firefighter for the Nappanee Smokey Stovers. Roger had been a member of the Nappanee Lions Club. In his free time, Roger enjoyed woodworking and restoring old cars. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Sue Shapland of Nappanee; 3 children: Scott Shapland of Goshen, John (Connie) Shapland of Nappanee, and Sally (Brian) Meade of Pierceton, IN; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother, Steve Shapland of Elkhart. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and 2 siblings, Carolyn LeCount and Russell Shapland. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2025 and from 10-11 am on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. A funeral service will begin at 11 am Friday at the funeral home with Pastors Jim Kintigh and Mike Raasch of The Living Gospel Church. Burial will follow in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee. Memorial contributions in Roger’s name can be given to The Living Gospel Church or Dunes Hospice.
