Ronald Ashley Jones passed away from natural causes on March 5, 2026. He was born on July 7, 1955, in Kansas to Donald Jones and Homar Jones (née Ashley). During his childhood, Ron and his siblings lived in several cities across the United States. Along the way he learned to ski in Fort Collins, Colorado, to sail in the Carolinas, and to hate the Crimson Tide in Auburn, Alabama.After graduating from Xavier University in 1978, Ron made Cincinnati, and later Covington, his home. He managed Barleycorn’s for many years, where he formed a core group of friends and met his future ex-wife and lifelong friend, Erika. A lover of books, he spent most of his career at Joseph-Beth Booksellers as operations manager.Ron lived a full life filled with travel, learning, and new experiences. He went to endless concerts, skied dozens of mountains, and made hundreds of friends along the way—even if he wouldn’t admit it. He had strong opinions and excellent taste, both of which never went unnoticed.Ron is survived by his daughter, Aidan Ashley Jones; his ex-wife and best friend, Erika Judd; his sister, Donna Bartley; his friends at Gypsies on Main; his nieces and nephews; as well as his dog, Jack II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Homar Jones; his brother, Floyd; brother-in-law, Jim Bartley; and his beloved dogs, Jack I and Bud.Ron will be remembered for his dry humor, his seemingly all-knowing intellect, and his ocean-blue eyes, as well as his love of books, F1 races, Bob Dylan, Bernie Sanders, Heineken, border collies and most of all, his daughter, Aidan.A celebration of life is planned for July of this year. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and Social Center.
