Ronald Duane Vander Stoep passed away on August 13, 2025. He was born in Oak Harbor, WA on June 10, 1939 to Fanny (Reintjis) and Andrew Vander Stoep. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School, Skagit Valley College and the University of Washington with a degree in accounting. From 1957-1960 Ron served in the U.S. Army.
While at SVC Ron met Rita Fladebo. They were married in 1963 and had 3 kids; Rob, Ryan and Becky. They made their home in Skagit Valley. Ron began working at Williams and Nulle and spent his career in accounting there. Ron contributed to his community by serving on many boards, but his primary focus was enjoying his family and his commitment to the Presbyterian Church.
Ron’s love of adventure took him to many places around the world with Rita and other friends. His adventurous spirit inspired a climb up Mt. Baker, kayak trips to the Bowron Lakes, fishing in Sitka, crabbing the Puget Sound, and a walk across Spain. He was also a life long athlete; from football in high school, racquet ball and golf through his adult life, and even running 4 marathons in his 60’s . Ron also loved a good game of cards. He played Hearts with the guys at lunch, gin at home with Rita, and many other games with kids, grandkids, and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his son Ryan, twin grandchildren Allen and Beth Vander Stoep, brother and sister-in-law Ed and Bonnie, brother Bill, sister Loni Anderson, and life long buddy Ernie Eerkes.
He is survived by his wife Rita, kids Rob and Becky, grandchildren Andrew Vander Stoep, Laina Mercer (Scott Delbeck), Allyson (Duke) Schaplow, Anna Ray, Adria Ray, and Amelia Ray, brother and sister-in-law Ken and Annie Vander Stoep, in-laws Carl Anderson, Kay Roodzant, Norma (Fladebo) Moss, Larry and Dee Fladebo, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
