Rose Juice, 97, of Clarks Summit, died peacefully Thursday evening, January 12th, at the Jewish Home in Scranton.
Born on the family farm in Lakewood PA, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Stefania Duda Juice. She assisted her father in running Juice’s Store on Cornell St. in Scranton and later the Pleasant View Motel in Clarks Summit.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Scranton.
Visual impairment nor age prevented her from leading an active life. Rose spent many happy hours at the Lackawanna Blind Association. She participated in exercise classes, crafts, and was the oldest and longest member of the Shopland Memorial Social Club. In 2002, she was a fashion model at Helen Keller Day. She enjoyed gardening, playing the guitar and harmonica, knitting, and cooking. Rose was well-known for her holubtsi, kolachki, and fudge.
Surviving is a sister Helen Osterberg, South Amboy NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters Mary Sichak, Stella Juice, and Olga Hoffman, and two brothers John Juice and Sam Juice Jr.
A Funeral of Divine Liturgy will be held Saturday at 10AM at St Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 540 N. Main Ave., Scranton PA 18509, with services by Rev. Philip Harendza and Right Rev. Nester S. Kowal. All those attending are asked to go directly to church. Interment will follow in Abington Hills Cemetery, S. Abington Twp.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7PM at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit PA 18411.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lackawanna Blind Association, 228 Adams Ave., Scranton 18503 or to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church at above address.
