Roy was born on April 24, 1947 in Northbrook, Illinois to Roy and Ruth Beavers. He attended New Trier High School and graduated in 1966. He was a gymnast and played lead guitar in a band called “The Marauders.” Eventually, he put down the guitar to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated in February of 1970 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
He married the love of his life, Carole Erdmann, on November 29, 1969 in Kewaskum, Wisconsin. They moved to Lombard, Illinois after graduation from MSOE and he began working with his father at Beavers Industries. In 1972 he started working for Texas Instruments (TI) as an electronics engineer in the service department. He moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1972 and then on to Houston, Texas in 1975 with TI. He worked for Texas Instruments until 1995.
In 1995, Roy and Paul McCutcheon decided to leave TI to start their own company called “CTS” (Computer Technology Solutions, Inc.). CTS was a successful Houston-based electronics company that provided worldwide bulk repair services and reverse logistics services. After working together for 5 years, Roy decided to retire in 2000.
In his retirement, Roy continued his passion for electrical engineering by tinkering with cars, computers, and any other household item that could challenge his knowledge (broken toys, TVs, etc.). He loved working on complicated (and usually outdated) electronics to keep them all in perfect working order.
Roy is survived by his wife, Carole; sons, R.J. of Las Vegas, and Philip and wife Lauren of Katy; grandson, Jackson; brothers, Larry and wife Cheryl of California, and Tom of California; brother-in-law, Curtis Erdmann and wife Karen of Wisconsin; nephew, Craig Erdmann and wife Carole of Wisconsin, and nieces Shawn Kratz and husband Roger of Wisconsin, Kimberly and husband George Palmer of Wisconsin, Michelle Malwitz and husband Kevin of Wisconsin and Janice Merkel of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy James Beavers Sr.; mother Ruth Beavers and sister-in-law Cheryl Muller.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 in the morning on Saturday, the 21st of January, at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home, where, Pastor Jeffrey Willey is to officiate.
Memorials will be designated for the recovery fund at Christ United Church of Cypress.
