Roy's Obituary

Roy “Lil Bro” Macklin, son of the late Alex and Irene Macklin, was born July 6, 1942 in Bracey, VA. “Lil Bro”, as family and friends affectionately knew him, departed this life on January 28, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

Roy received his education in the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. He worked for Cossantino Contractors until his retirement. He really enjoyed retirement until his health began to fail. Roy loved to spend his days fishing, playing the lottery, going to casinos, Capital Race Track, car shows and listening to music from his       favorite artist, Roy C. He loved to dance and would make you laugh at all of his jokes. He especially loved to be a great agitator to his loving wife, Elaine.

Roy was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, brother-in-law and friend to many. He was a loving person who loved his family and didn't mind traveling from Baltimore to Bracey for a visit. Whenever he was around, it was a fun time. He had a way of making you feel special. He loved  people and they loved him.  All those who knew and loved him will surely miss Roy; especially his children and grand-children who all learned to spell their last name using his   famous line: “I am who I am, M-A-C-K-L-I-N.”

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Irene; siblings, Charles “Bay”, Grover “Lil Bit”, Joseph, Major “Big Bro”, William “Pete”, Ronald “Fee-Eye”, Grace “Lou”, Cora and Florene; and a daughter-in-law, Kim “Sugg”.

Roy leaves to cherish memories: his wife of 53 years, Elaine Macklin; sister, Myrtle Valentine of Bracey, VA; his children, Roy Wilcox (Sharon) of Washington, DC, Will “Squeaky” Crenshaw (Carolyn), Djuna “D.J” Miller, Roy “Bubby” Macklin, Jr. (Wanda), Kevin Macklin and Katrina Harris (Reginald) all of Baltimore, MD. He was affectionately called “Pop Pop” by his grandchildren: Raynard, Anaya, Torey, Davon, Jamal, Isaiah, Tijuna, Keisha, Tiaundra, Devon, Devont’e, Cierra, Kevin, Jr., Cortney, Corey and Cody and great-grandchildren: Troy, Shaliyah, Brionna, David, Corey, Charlie, Dontez and Alyana.

Roy also leaves his mother-in-law, Emma Hagler of Baltimore, MD; a devoted sister-in-law, Florence “Lady” Macklin of Bracey, VA and sisters-in-law, Joan Macklin of South Hill, VA, Ida Green and Jean Williams of Baltimore, MD; brother-in-law, Willie James of         Baltimore, MD; his best friend and fishing partner, Dennis Harrell; two special nephews, Johney and Comma Lee “Dickie Boy” of Bracey, VA; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 12:00 noon at Roanoke Zion RZUA Church in Bracey, VA with the Rev.
