Roy Walter Wenskay Age 94, of Dearborn, MI. The loving patriarch of his family went to be with the Lord peacefully on the 4th of July. Roy was born in Detroit, MI to Carl and Ottilie (Schukowsky) Wenskay. After graduating from the Henry Ford Trade School, Roy enlisted in the Army to serve in World War II. He was assigned to the artillery in Europe and was captured by the enemy, but managed to return to his unit in a heroic escape. After the War, he was an avid motorcyclist and worked as a toolmaker in Dearborn until his retirement. He and his beloved wife, Helena (Vickers), were married at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dearborn in 1947 and remained together for 61 years until her passing in 2008. Together, they raised three sons. Roy was currently the oldest member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, having attended there for over 70 years.During his retirement, Roy loved restoring Model A cars and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. While living at Oakmont Manor in Sterling Heights, MI, he enjoyed attending German festivals, attending reunions of his WWII Army unit, and entertaining his friends at Oakmont by singing old songs and telling jokes. He leaves behind his three sons: John, and his wife Roxanne; Larry, and his wife Marsha; and Donald, and his wife Teri. He will be greatly missed by his three sons, six grandchildren (Kimberly, Jeffrey (wife Rachael); Ryan, Brynn, Evan (their mother Marsha Brown Wenskay); Tracye (her mother Rochelle Sielsky Wenskay)), and five great-grandchildren.There will be a viewing at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Dearborn on July 7th from 2 to 8pm. A funeral will be held at 11am Friday July 8th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. The burial will be at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia, MI. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in Roy’s name to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 800 S. Military Street, Dearborn.
