RUSSELL's Obituary

Russell “Bud” Paulson

Russell “Bud” Paulson, 84, Moose Lake, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in Branson, MO where they wintered with their wonderful Branson family.  He was born on July 29, 1933 in Moose Lake Township to Russell and Mildred Paulson.  Bud grew up in Silver Township and graduated from Moose Lake High School. He joined the Merchant Marines after graduation in 1952.  He then joined the Army in 1953 and was a Veteran of the Korean War.  On August 26, 1956, Bud married Beverly Sypher in Palmer Lake, CO.

They lived in Barnum Township where they devoted over 20 years to dairy farming and had registered Holsteins for more than 15 years.  Bud drove a bulk milk truck route for nine years in northern Minnesota for Old Home Creamery and was very proud to have started with nine customers in the fall and by spring had 110.  He drove school bus for Barnum School District for 13 years.  Bud received income tax training from Bev and together they owned and operated H & R Block for over 30 years in Moose Lake.  Bud was the grounds superintendent for Carlton County Fair.   He served on the boards of Carlton County Fair, Moose Lake Federal Credit Union and Farmers Home Administration.  He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans, Minnesota Holstein Association, and the Barnum American Legion Post #415 where he served as an officer.  He loved woodworking and built many items for their home including most of their furniture and cabinetry and also shared his woodworking by making cabinets for the Barnum Senior Citizen Center as well as the sanctuary cross at Hope Lutheran Church.  He used his life experiences to become a great story teller.

Bud was extremely proud of his grandchildren and continually mentored and shared his knowledge with them, including woodworking and the love of learning, for which they are forever grateful and appreciative.  He loved to help them with 4-H projects that often led them on a path to the State Fair. Bud will never be forgotten for his kind and caring demeanor that made him the anchor that kept his family together.

Bud will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years; three children, Richard “Rusty” (Barbara) Paulson of Owatonna, MN; Robin (Thomas) Quigley of Menominee, MI and Randy (Janelle) Paulson of Chatfield, MN; grandchildren including Joshua (Susan) Quigley, Eric (Addey) Quigley, Patrick (Ashley) Quigley, Brian (Jane) Paulson, Neil Paulson, Brenna Quigley, Jana (Brian) Walters, Alexander (Kayla) Paulson, and Aaron Paulson; great-grandchildren including Joseph Quigley, Marlow Quigley, Eileen Quigley, Desmond Quigley, Anaia Paulson, and Violet Quigley; two soon to be expected great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson, Elliot Quigley; two brothers, Gordon Paulson of Barnum, MN and Rodney Paulson of Moose Lake, MN; three sisters, Isabelle Walker of Moose Lake, MN, Deloris Johnson of Washburn, WI and Betty Larson of Kettle River, MN; a sister-in-law Charlotte Paulson of Cokato, MN and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as their Branson, MO, friends whom have been such an important part of their life through the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clifford “Tiny” Paulson; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Walker and Deane Larson; and a sister-in-law Marie Paulson.
