Not sure what to say?

Russ was a brother and a friend....will miss him dearly.

This breaks my heart. I always loved it when he would call me for my donation for the Masonic Car Show. Always loved seeing him. Don't think I ever saw him without his smiling face. He will truly be missed!!!

Russell's Obituary

Russell Wade Suggs

(September 20, 1954 – March 21, 2026)

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we mark the passing of Russell Wade Suggs, 71, who took his heavenly journey on March 21, 2026 after a short illness.  He was born September 20, 1954 to Evelyn and Jack Suggs at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.  Russell passed unafraid, with the love of his life, Linda, by his side.  A man of extraordinary humility, faith, humor, strength, generosity and grace, he lived a fun-filled and exciting life.  With his constant warm smile, Russell remains a shining light in the lives of those who knew him and leaves behind a legacy marked by meaningful love for family and friends.

Russell began his life in Houston Texas and graduated from Lamar High School in 1972.  He graduated from University of Houston in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in Finance where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  Russell met the love of his life Linda Whittenburg Suggs at a fraternity party at U of H in the fall of 1979 and they were married on July 25, 1981.

Russell’s parents owned an archery and taxidermy business in Bellaire, Texas where they were great competitors in field archery.  Russell was the Texas State Bare Bow Champion for 1968 – 1972 and was the National Champion in 1972 in the youth division.

From 1980 – 1994 he owned a successful landscaping and equipment repair business.  At the age of 40 he decided he wanted to change direction and started Mustang Mania to sell Mustang parts for classic Mustangs and did so from 1995 - 2010.  This allowed him to turn his love for cars into a business.  Russell spent years as an avid vintage race car driver with Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing where he raced his 1966 Mustang Coupe and later a 1970 “school bus yellow”  Boss 302.  He made many friends through the years and enjoyed his passion of owning and racing classic Mustangs.

In 2010 Linda and Russell moved to Blanco, Texas to enjoy the Texas hill country.  To honor his uncle, Carroll Suggs, he joined the Blanco Masonic Lodge #216 and became a Master Mason on October 21, 2015.  He served in various offices in the lodge and was Worshipful Master in 2021 – 2022.  He joined the Order of Eastern Star on January 16, 2016 where he found a renewed passion for playing piano by becoming the organist for the chapter.

During retirement, Russell enjoyed snow skiing with friends and family, traveling, sitting on the beach in Florida and Hawaii, collecting vinyl albums, camping, studying his Masonic work, gardening, and pursuing his music hobby of playing guitar and piano.

Russell is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda, along with a legacy of unforgettable kindness and a real enthusiasm for life.   Russell also leaves behind many good friends that he made during his lifetime.  Russell is preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Jack Suggs and his brother-in-law Gerald Whittenburg.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Blanco Masonic Lodge, US Hwy 281 North at 11th St, Blanco, Texas.  Following the service, there will be a luncheon for any who would like to stay and rejoice in remembering Russell.

Russell’s spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him and we honor his legacy with love, laughter and oh so many memories.  He never met a stranger and Russell will be remembered for his ever present contagious smile, the glint in his blue-green eyes and the kind heartfelt way he cared for others.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Shriner’s Hospital for Children or Blanco Good Samaritan Food Bank in Blanco Texas.
