Ruth passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, in Escondido, California, at the age of 84. The following was written by her while in Memory Care. The only corrections are dates.
My name is Ruth Mary Gulliver Buck Ellsworth. I was born in Santa Monica, Ca in 1940. My Mother and Dad were married in 1939. From 1942 my Dad was called into Service as the Navy Radio Man. He spent a lot of time as a Radio Man on board a ship.
I was born in Santa Monica, June 28th 1940. My Mom stayed at home most of the time. Occasionally to visit my Dad if he was in port nearby. My Aunt was a school nurse and kept me when my Mom was away. I was an only child until 1947 when Gail, my sister was born, Mark 1950, Terry 1952, Jill 1955. My Mom and Dad were very active in the Christian Church and I was happy to have a big family and a happy Christian home.
I attended school at Williams Elementary, Hawthorne Intermediate, and Leuzinger High School to graduate 1958, married 1959, Gary Buck. Had John 1959, Cheryl 1961, James 1964, divorced 1979, married 1981, Jerry Ellsworth. We both enjoyed the ocean and mountains.
Became a Catalina Water Skier after many years working as a lifeguard and helping handicapped children in water. I taught swimming with children at Hawthorne Pool.
Love the out of doors, fishing, being a Catalina skier, my second marriage, my children and grandchildren, great grandchildren. Family and friends are very important to me. Animals and people give me joy.
Married Jerry 1981 and he passed away last year, and had a Military Funeral. I keep close to God and helping people. I like to help others, sew, quilt, and mend clothing for others - known as the zipper lady and like to bake lots of sweet treats. I love life and people. I miss my husband (buried).
