Ruth B. Farnett, 70, joined the Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Born in Japan, she had been a Hampton Roads resident since 1968. She had worked for several local merchants as a bookkeeper through the years. An active Phoebus United Methodist Church member, she participated with the United Methodist Women and loved cooking and baking. She was a troop mother and for Boy Scout Troop #31 at Fort Monroe and was always present to volunteer at her son’s school while he was growing up. She held the office of Treasurer for the American Legion Post # 48. Ruth was the neighborhood mother and pet rescuer.
Preceded in death by her father, Bernard L. Muehlbauer and her husband, Anthony J. Farnett; survivors include her son, Stephen Farnett and wife, Amanda; her granddaughter, Merry Farnett; her mother, Rose Muehlbauer; her sister, Grace Muehlbauer Dodd and husband, David; her brother, Jimmy Muehlbauer and his wife, Melissa; her niece, Samantha; and her goddaughters, Cheryl Bare and husband, Ryan and Caitlin Bailey and husband, Daniel, and their son Aiden.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Phoebus United Methodist Church, followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to Phoebus United Methodist Church, 300 E. Mellen Street, Hampton, VA 23663, instead of flowers.
