Ruth Munson, the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Munson (nee Bell),was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 2, 1945. She attended public schoolsin Philadelphia and graduated from William Penn High School for Girls in 1962.During her youth, Ruth attended church and received her Christian education as aBaptist. Later in life, she joined Reformation Lutheran Church and served as a SundaySchool teacher.Ruth met John Robert Dean Sr. while serving as a summer camp counselorduring a swimming lesson and began a courtship. They married in June 1964 and wereblessed with two children, Angela and John Robert Dean, Jr. After thirteen years ofmarriage, they divorced.During her lifetime, Ruth worked thirty years at the Medical College ofPennsylvania (MCP) as an X-ray and CAT Scan technician. She retired from MCP andpursued her lifelong dream of attending college. Ruth earned an Associates Degreefrom Widener University and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from TempleUniversity.As a young woman, Ruth always enjoyed helping her brothers and sisters withtheir school work. She instilled a love of learning in her own children by encouragingthem to read and pursue higher education. Her favorite saying was, “You can doanything, if you put your mind to it.” Ruth loved her extended family and always lenta helping hand to anyone in need. After a long and debilitating battle with Alzheimer’sdisease, she went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 12, 2026.Ruth is predeceased by her parents, sisters; Carolyn Harris and HelenaBarefield, and a brother, Gerald Munson. She is survived by her daughter AngelaDean, her son John R. Dean, Jr. and his wife Chandra, her grandsons; Johari Dean-Lindsey, Elijah Dean and Emmanuel Dean, and granddaughter, Kendall Dean. She isalso survived by her sisters; Jacqueline Courtney and Roslynne Munson, and herbrothers Charles Munson, Bruce Munson and Alvin Munson as well as a host ofnieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
