Ruth V. Sampley, 87 of Iowa Park, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 in Wichita Falls.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park with Pastor James Richey, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
Ruth was born on June 19, 1938 to the late Erb Lee and Lorraine (Copeland) Via in Wichita County, Texas. Ruth married Roger Dale Sampley on April 21, 1954 and spent many wonderful years together before his passing on March 11, 1997. She was an amazing cook and baker with her specialty being her famous rum cake. She often gave them as gifts to her children and grandchildren and would tell them "it tastes better the longer it sits". Along with cooking and baking, she enjoyed canning from the garden that her husband tended to, making delicious jellies, jams, pickles, pickled okra and so much more. She was also an excellent seamstress and could sew anything and everything, a trait she passed on to her daughters. Most of all, she loved being Grandma Ruth to all the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. This special lady could do just about anything and normally she did.
Along with her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Dale Sampley Jr. and Larry Paul Sampley; three sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her children, daughter, Glenda Goad and husband, Steve, daughter, Linda Christerson, son, Calvin Sampley and wife, Cyndi and daughter, Nancy Turner; Grandchildren Tywayne Gowin, JT Gowin, Tracy Richey, Damon Kennan, Christal Brewer, Randi Hernandez, Garrett Sampley, Wes Sampley, Kylee Sampley, Amber White and Trey Sampley. ; twenty-six great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and numerous other loved family members.
