Ruth E. Sogn, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2020 in Buffalo, MN. Her funeral will be held Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington with burial in the Bowdon Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
Ruth was born on August 12, 1924, and attended school in rural Chaseley, ND. She lived on farms in the Chaseley/Bowdon area for a good share of her life. She married Toledo "Torp" Sogn on January 2, 1942. She was active in the West Ontario Homemakers Club and Ladies Circles at Bowdon Lutheran Church. She enjoyed hosting many family gatherings at the Sogn Farm. After the death of her husband in 1979, she moved to Harvey, ND and worked as a cook in a restaurant. In 1989 after the passing of her daughter-in-law, Judy, she moved to Maple Grove, MN to help her son finish raising his two children. In 1994, when Dale remarried, she moved back to her beloved North Dakota and lived in Carrington until two years ago. Ruth returned to the Minneapolis area to move into an assisted living residence to be close to family.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Janet); sister Edith Faye; sister-in-law Donyta Wright; grandchildren, Denise (Doug), Jay (Christina); great grandchildren, Jacob, Anna, Garrett, Carter and Liam; step-grandchildren, Tim (Marcia), and Beth; step-great grandchildren, Nicole, Patrick, Madison, Kaitlyn and Henry. Many cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Toledo "Torp"; parents, Fred and Dorothy Wright; Brother, William Wright; brother-in-law, John Faye and daughter-in-law, Judith Sogn.
She was Ma, Ruth, Grandma, Aunt Ruth, and Mrs. Sogn. Most of all she was herself. Loved her family. Told it like it was, never afraid to speak her opinion, but kind and intelligent to the end. Her cousin Loren said, "Ruth was the bedrock of our families for decades and her time to join the ancestors did arrive. A big hole in all of our hearts has formed". We will all miss her. God bless you, Ruth.
