Ryan's Obituary

Ryan Joseph Mitchell, 39, of Newman, passed away on August 9, 2025 in Turlock, CA.

Ryan, who graduated from Turlock High School, Modesto Junior College, and CSU, Stanislaus, was a man of many talents and interests. He was a gardener, a bike rider, a jogger (He once texted: “I’m running against the wind right now it’s thrilling," 2024), a hunter, a fisherman, a softball player, a reader, and more. He also took advantage of spontaneous offers for adventure: spending a day in awe of the wonders of Yosemite National Park and spending a few hours kayaking the San Joaquin River. Other than recreation, Ryan worked for Cebro Frozen Foods, an opportunity he valued and a place where he respected his co-workers and relished the physical demands of his responsibilities. Ryan was engaged in life.

Ryan’s life was more than accomplishments and work. He scrutinized life—its meaning, its purpose, and his purpose. His personal growth, his musings and insights about an honorable existence often were topics of conversation. It was common for Ryan to share some especially impactful ideas. Among the musings he noted include the following attributed to Nipsey Hussle: “Would you rather be at war with yourself and at peace with the world or at peace with yourself and at war with the world?” Another idea among the many he valued enough to record is from an unknown source: “Just because you did something wrong in the past doesn’t mean you can’t advocate against it now. It doesn’t make you a hypocrite; you grew. Don’t let people use your past to invalidate your current mindset—Growth: A concept—Embrace it.” Ryan was inquisitive about life.

Ryan Joseph Mitchell was born in Modesto, CA. He is survived by his parents, R.B. and Joyce Mitchell of Turlock; his brother, Lance Mitchell of Turlock; his niece, McKenzie Lynn Mitchell of Turlock; and his beloved dog, Angel. Ryan is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Delores and Guy Mitchell and his maternal grandparents, Joaquin Medeiros and Mary Ann Medeiros-Muscutt. Ryan is cherished.

He will be remembered and continue to be honored in love.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jessica’s House,1225 W Christoffersen Pkwy, Turlock, CA 95382 or Cause for Paws, PO Box 364, Newman, CA 95360.
